RECUPERACIÓN DE LA PLAZA CENTRAL Y EL CENTRO HISTÓRICO DE EINDHOVEN. RE-VIVING THE HEART OF THE CITY

[eng] The concept is to collaborate with the Municipality of Eindhoven (department of Urban Design) for revive the heart of the city knowing the existing urban design and which possibilities we can use for it for improve and make a place to be. The goal is to make a better shopping and leisure area with a modern public space that can integrate the existing buildings. The trend of Eindhoven is not to destroy old buildings but use and renovate them again, some examples of The Witte Dame, Admirant, Lichttoren and the Srip. A sustainable approach that wants to make an identity for the city centre with a clear language, facades, materials and atmosphere.

The principal streets (Demer, Rechtestraact, Stratumseind, Vrijstraat and Nieuwstraat) with the central plaza makes the city centre. The consideration of the history and the wisdom that Eindhoven citizens shows that the objective of the project is to organize and make a hierarchy of streets, paths, pavements and urban furniture trying to integrate the local atmosphere, accessibility and vegetation.

For the main plaza the project develops different options trying to find the integration with the context and existing elements and buildings, also taking in consideration other functions (weekly market, christmas ice rink, king’s day etc) for create a modern identity.
